Welcoming Patrick Gorman

Hello, my name is Patrick Gorman, and I am very excited to be joining Fernland as an Agronomist.

I have spent the past six years as a Grower and Production Manager in Vegetable and Plant Nurseries. I've amassed a variety of experiences, skills and knowledge in these roles; from specific IPM programs for Celery Seedlings and potted Leucadendron's, to trialling different soil media and fertilisers on a vast array of plants. I've also worked out that irrigation pumps always seem to break down on a Friday afternoon, around 3:30 pm!

Prior to working in Nurseries, I was an Agronomist in Far North Queensland, where I gained exposure to Avocado's, Banana's and many other tropical crops. This role focused on improving soil and plant health, optimising moisture management and creating sustainable IPM practices, which provided a solid foundation to advance my agronomy knowledge.

Away from work, I am an avid golfer, despite my handicap suggesting otherwise! I enjoy just about any sporting situation I can find myself in, from surfing and swimming, to attending the cricket and footy (AFL = Pies, NRL = Storm ). My partner and I have recently relocated to sunny Queensland and just last week rescued a 2-year-old kelpie, "Lucky". Apparently long walks and runs are now a part of our routine.

I have found the Nursery and broader Horticultural Industry to be incredible, and ever welcoming. It's wonderful to see so many Growers' and Supplier's sharing knowledge and experiences so transparently. I believe thriving Nurseries are driving our successful industry, and with youthful enthusiasm pushing through, coupled with decades of wisdom, we are only scratching the surface of what's possible. The next 10 years are going to be incredibly exciting to be a part of!
