DIRECTIONS FOR USE DO NOT apply by aircraft. DO NOT apply with a nozzle height greater than 50cm above the ground. DO NOT apply through any type of irrigation equipment. DO NOT irrigate to the point of runoff for at least 3 days after application. DO NOT apply to waterlogged soil. DO NOT apply if heavy rains or storms are forecast within 3 days.
SPRAY DRIFT RESTRAINTS DO NOT apply with spray droplets smaller than a COARSE spray droplet size category according to “APVMA Compliance Instructions for Mandatory COARSE or Larger Droplet Size Categories” located under this title in the GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS section of this label. DO NOT apply when wind speed is less than 3 or more than 20 km per hour as measured at the application site. DO NOT apply during surface temperature inversion conditions at the application site. Users of this product MUST make an accurate written record of the details of each spray application within 24 hours following application and KEEP this record for a minimum of 2 years. The spray application details that must be recorded are:
- date with start and finish times of application;
- location address and paddocks/areas sprayed;
- full name of this product;
- amount of product used per hectare and number of hectares treated;
- crop/situation and weed;
- wind speed and direction during application;
- air temperature and relative humidity during application;
- nozzle brand, type, spray angle, nozzle capacity and spray system pressure measured during application;
- name and address of person applying this product. (Additional record details may be required by the state or territory where this product is used.)
MANDATORY NO-SPRAY ZONES DO NOT apply if there are sensitive crops, gardens, landscaping vegetation, protected native vegetation or protected animal habitat within 40 metres downwind from the application area. DO NOT apply if there are aquatic or wetland areas including aquacultural ponds, surface streams and rivers within 10 metres downwind from the application area.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS Esplanade is a selective, pre-emergent herbicide for control of certain grass and broadleaf weeds in industrial vegetation management and in forestry plantations. Esplanade controls weeds by reducing the emergence of seedlings through inhibition of cellulose biosynthesis (CB inhibitor). The product needs to be activated prior to weed germination for most effective control. For maximum activity against germinating weeds, Esplanade requires rainfall (minimum 6 mm) within several weeks after application to activate the herbicide. Esplanade has minimal post-emergent activity and generally does not control weeds that have emerged. A registered post-emergent herbicide may be mixed with Esplanade to control existing weeds. Esplanade does not control tubers, rhizomes and woody vegetation.
INDUSTRIAL VEGETATION MANAGEMENT (IVM): Apply Esplanade prior to weed seed germination. Esplanade does not generally control weeds that have emerged. For maximum weed control, the herbicide needs to reach the soil surface and be activated by rainfall or adequate soil moisture. Factors including soil type, rainfall and the amount of vegetation at the time of treatment may affect weed control. Control may be reduced if the product is not activated by rainfall prior to weed germination.
FORESTRY: The level of weed control is dependent on many variables including soil texture, moisture, temperature, weed species present, the amount of weed seed present in the soil and the crop canopy. Weed control activity may be reduced if the application is made to soil covered in heavy crop or weed debris that prevents a uniform distribution of the product reaching the soil. Removing debris prior to application will facilitate contact with soil.
Esplanade may be tank mixed with the following herbicide active ingredients but not limited to: glyphosate, hexazinone, metsulfuron-methyl, simazine and sulfometuron-methyl. Apply mixtures so that the spray solution covers the soil surface in a uniform manner. If uniform coverage is not achieved pre-emergent activity will be inconsistent. See also the Compatibility section of this label.
MIXING Ensure that the spray tank has been thoroughly cleaned from previous use before mixing. Half- fill the spray tank with water, then with agitators in motion, add the correct amount of Esplanade directly into the spray tank. Complete filling the tank with water with agitators in motion. Agitation must continue before and during spraying.
COMPATIBILITY As formulations of other manufacturers’ products are beyond the control of Bayer CropScience Pty Ltd and as water quality may vary, a compatibility test to assess physical compatibility should be conducted with any potential tank mix partner prior

to mixing commercial quantities. Fill a clear container three-quarters full with water. Add the appropriate amount of Esplanade and the tank mix partner. Shake or gently stir after each addition to mix thoroughly. Let the mixture stand for 15 minutes and look for separation, large flakes, precipitates, gels and heavy oily film or other signs of incompatibility. If the compatibility test shows signs of incompatibility, do not tank mix the product tested with Esplanade. Read the label of the other product before mixing or using the tank mix. Follow all use restrictions on this label and for all tank mix partners and use the most restrictive use pattern for the labels of all products in a tank mixture.
If using this product in a tank mix with another herbicide, add the appropriate amounts of the tank mix partner(s) in the following order: a) products in water-soluble packaging, b) wettable powders (WP), c) water-dispersible granules (WG), d) fertilizers, e) Esplanade, f) other aqueous suspension products (SC), g) other SC formulations, h) emulsifiable concentrates (EC) and other organic-solvent-based formulations. Do not mix concentrates together but add each one separately to the spray tank. Do not store mix overnight. As changes in climatic conditions can alter the sensitivity of plants to mixtures of sprays, Bayer CropScience Pty Ltd cannot be responsible for the behaviour of such mixtures.
APPLICATION Ensure spraying equipment is properly calibrated before use. Uniform application is essential for satisfactory weed control. Ensure that complete and even spray coverage is achieved. DO NOT overlap sprayed areas. Use spray volumes of 150 – 400 L/ha, spray boom height and spray pressures as low as practical, use coarse droplet-producing nozzle tips, use drift-control additives and spray when wind speed is low.
Apply Esplanade with a properly calibrated sprayer according to the manufacturers’ directions and check periodically to be certain that the equipment is working properly prior to each use. Uniform application is essential for satisfactory weed control. Avoid overlap. Shut off spray boom while starting, turning or stopping to avoid off-target application.
Spot application: Use spot spraying to treat individual weed plants or areas that only have small clumps of weed infestations.
FORESTRY: Esplanade may be applied either as a broadcast treatment during site preparation or to established stands, or as a banded spray to the rows of trees, prior to or after planting. DO NOT apply to Eucalyptus plantations post-planting.
APVMA Compliance Instructions for Mandatory COARSE or Larger Droplet Size Categories Important Information: These instructions inform those using this chemical product how to lawfully comply with the requirement of a COARSE or larger spray droplet size category for spray application. Spray droplet size categories are defined in the ASAE S572 Standard (newer name may also be shown as ASABE) or the BCPC

guideline. Nozzle manufacturers may refer to one or both to identify droplet size categories, but for a nozzle to comply with this requirement, the manufacturer must refer to at least one.
Complying with the label requirement to use a specific droplet size category means using the correct nozzle that will deliver that droplet size category under the spray operation conditions being used. The APVMA has approved only the following specific methods for choosing the correct nozzle. Use one of the methods specified in these instructions to select a correct nozzle to deliver a COARSE or larger droplet size category.
USE ONLY nozzles that the nozzles’ manufacturer has rated to deliver a COARSE, a VERY COARSE or an EXTREMELY COARSE droplet size category as referenced to ASAE S572 or BCPC. Choose a nozzle specified to provide the droplet size category required in the label Spray Drift Restraints.
DO NOT use a higher spray system pressure than the maximum the manufacturer specifies for the selected nozzle to deliver the droplet size category required in the label Spray Drift Restraint.
SPRAYER CLEAN UP The sprayer must be thoroughly decontaminated before being used again to spray susceptible plants or turf. Ensure that the following operation is carried out in an area that is clear of waterways, desirable vegetation and tree roots, and preferably in an area where drainings can be contained.
- Drain sprayer completely and wash out tank, boom and hoses with clean water.
- Drain again.
- Fill the tank with clean water and add 300 mL of chlorine bleach (containing 4% chlorine) per 100 L of water with agitation running.
- Flush some bleach solution through booms and hoses and allow remainder to agitate in tank for 10 minutes.
- Remove nozzles and filters and leave to soak in a bleach solution of 500 mL per 10 L of water while tank cleaning is in progress.
- Briefly run the pump at periodic intervals to refresh chlorine solution in spray lines.
- Drain tank and repeat the procedure of flushing with bleach solution.
- Flush the tank, boom and hoses with clean water.

RESISTANCE WARNING GROUP O HERBICIDE Esplanade Herbicide is a member of the O group of herbicides (alkylazines) and has the inhibitor of cell wall [cellulose] synthesis mode of action. For weed resistance management Esplanade is a Group O herbicide. Some naturally-occurring weed biotypes resistant to Esplanade, and other Group O herbicides, may exist through normal genetic variability in any weed population. These resistant individuals can eventually dominate the weed population if these herbicides are used repeatedly. These resistant weeds will not be controlled by Esplanade or other Group O herbicides. DO NOT rely exclusively on Esplanade for weed control. Use as part of an integrated weed management program involving herbicides with other modes of action and non-chemical methods of control. difficult to detect prior to use Bayer CropScience Pty Ltd accepts no liability for any losses that may result from the failure of Esplanade to control resistant weeds.
PRECAUTIONS RE-ENTRY PERIOD If entering the treated area before the spray has dried, wear cotton overalls buttoned to the neck and wrist (or equivalent clothing) and elbow length chemical resistant gloves. Clothing must be washed after each day’s use.
PROTECTION OF CROPS, NATIVE AND OTHER NON-TARGET PLANTS DO NOT use clippings from treated areas for mulch around vegetables or fruit trees.
PROTECTION OF LIVESTOCK DO NOT graze treated areas or feed grass clippings from any treated area to poultry or livestock.
PROTECTION OF WILDLIFE, FISH, CRUSTACEANS AND ENVIRONMENT Very toxic to aquatic life. DO NOT contaminate wetlands or watercourses with this product or used containers. To reduce runoff from treated areas, avoid application to areas with moderate to steep slopes. Runoff may be reduced by including a vegetative strip between the treated area and the edge of the water body.
STORAGE AND DISPOSAL Store in the closed, original container in a cool, well-ventilated area. Do not store for prolonged periods in direct sunlight. Triple-rinse containers before disposal. Add rinsings to spray tank. Do not dispose of undiluted chemicals on site. If recycling, replace cap and return clean containers to recycler or designated collection point. If not recycling, break, crush, or puncture and deliver empty packaging to an approved waste management facility. If an approved waste management facility is not available, bury the empty packaging 500 mm below the surface in a disposal pit specifically marked and set up for this purpose, clear of waterways, desirable vegetation and tree roots, in compliance with relevant local, state or territory government regulations. Do not burn empty containers or product. DO NOT re-use empty container for any other purpose.

SAFETY DIRECTIONS May irritate the eyes. Avoid contact with eyes. When opening the container, mixing, loading and using the prepared spray, wear cotton overalls buttoned to the neck and wrist (or equivalent clothing). If applying by equipment carried on the back of the user wear cotton overalls buttoned to the neck and wrist (or equivalent clothing) and elbow-length chemical resistant gloves. Wash hands after use. After each day’s use, wash gloves and contaminated clothing.
