Section 4 – First Aid Measures

Description of First Aid Measures:

Route of Exposure First Aid Measures
Inhalation Remove person to fresh air. If irritation persists, seek medical attention.
Skin Contact Wash affected area thoroughly with soap and water. Remove contaminated clothing. Seek medical attention if irritation develops or persists.
Eye Contact Flush eyes immediately with clean water for at least 15 minutes, holding eyelids open. Remove contact lenses if present and easy to do. Seek medical attention if irritation persists.
Ingestion Rinse mouth with water. Do NOT induce vomiting. Give water to drink if conscious. Contact the Poisons Information Centre (13 11 26) or a physician if large quantities are ingested or if symptoms occur.

Most Important Symptoms and Effects: Mild mechanical irritation of eyes, skin, or respiratory tract may occur from dust exposure. Ingestion of significant quantities may cause nausea, abdominal discomfort, and diarrhoea.

Indication of Immediate Medical Attention and Special Treatment: Treat symptomatically. No specific antidote. Advise physician of product composition if medical attention is sought.

Section 5 – Fire-fighting Measures

Suitable Extinguishing Media: Water spray, foam, dry chemical powder, carbon dioxide (CO₂).

Unsuitable Extinguishing Media: None known.

Specific Hazards Arising from the Chemical: This product is not flammable or combustible under normal conditions. In a fire, thermal decomposition may produce oxides of nitrogen, carbon, and potassium. No flash point or auto-ignition temperature applicable.

Special Protective Actions for Fire-Fighters: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and full protective clothing if involved in a large fire. Use water spray to cool fire-exposed containers.

Section 6 – Accidental Release Measures

Personal Precautions, Protective Equipment and Emergency Procedures: Avoid generating dust. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (see Section 8). Ensure adequate ventilation in enclosed areas.

Environmental Precautions: Prevent entry into waterways, drains, and sewers. Although the product is environmentally friendly to plants, excessive quantities entering waterways may contribute to nutrient loading.

Methods and Materials for Containment and Clean-Up: Sweep or vacuum spilled material and collect in suitable containers for use or disposal. Wash residual material into soil with water. Avoid dust generation during clean-up.

Section 7 – Handling and Storage

Precautions for Safe Handling: Avoid prolonged or repeated skin contact. Avoid breathing dust. Wash hands thoroughly after handling. Do not eat, drink, or smoke while using this product. Use in well-ventilated areas.

Conditions for Safe Storage: Store in original packaging in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area. Keep away from oxidising agents and strong acids. Keep containers tightly closed when not in use. Store away from foodstuffs, animal feed, and fertilisers of different compositions. Protect from moisture to prevent caking.

Incompatible Materials: Strong oxidising agents, strong acids.

Section 8 – Exposure Controls/personal Protection

Exposure Standards: No specific workplace exposure standards (WES) have been established for this product or its components under Safe Work Australia guidelines. General dust exposure limits apply:

Parameter TWA (8 hr) STEL
Inspirable dust (PNOS) 10 mg/m³ Not established
Respirable dust (PNOS) 3 mg/m³ Not established

PNOS = Particles Not Otherwise Specified

Engineering Controls: Use local exhaust ventilation or general dilution ventilation to maintain airborne dust concentrations below exposure standards, particularly during bulk handling or mechanical spreading.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):

PPE Type Recommendation
Eye/Face Protection Safety glasses with side shields if dust is generated.
Skin Protection Wear gloves (e.g. nitrile or PVC) during prolonged or repeated handling.
Respiratory Protection If dust exceeds exposure limits, use a P1/P2 particulate respirator compliant with AS/NZS 1716.
Other Wear suitable work clothing. Launder contaminated clothing before re-use.
