Chief® Topflo

Broad Spectrum Curative Disease Control

Product Overview

  • CHIEF® TOPFLO is a broad spectrum fungicide containing 625g/L of the active ingredient Iprodione (the highest a.i. load Iprodione in the Australian market).
  • It is registered for the control of Brown Patch, Dollar Spot, Fusarium Patch, Spring Dead Spot, Curvularia and Helminthosporium diseases in all recreational turf situations
  • In Ornamental plants, CHIEF® TOPFLO is registered for the control of Botrytis blight.

Mode of Action

GROUP 2 FUNGICIDE

Iprodione, the active ingredient in CHIEF® TOPFLO is a member of the dicarboxymide fungicide group.

CHIEF® TOPFLO has both protective and strong curative activity. Iprodione controls susceptible fungi by inhibiting germination of fungal spores and growth of mycelium (a vegetative part of the fungus).

CHIEF® TOPFLO possesses locally systemic movement (Translaminar) capabilities within plants, meaning that when used as a foliar treatment, it has the capacity to penetrate into leaf tissue, moving from the upper leaf surface to the lower leaf surface, enhancing protection and control within the entire leaf area.

This ensures plant pathogen growth within treated plant tissue is halted and controlled within days following application.

How to Get the Best Results from Chief® Topflo

In turf applications, it is recommended that CHIEF® TOPFLO be applied in a minimum water volume as specified on the label, in a medium sized droplet to obtain an even coverage over the turf surface. For root borne diseases, irrigation maybe required to place the active ingredient into the rootzone.

For ornamental application, ensure CHIEF® TOPFLO is applied as uniformly as possible over the plant and repeat applications at 14 day intervals until disease control has been achieved.

Use Rates

Turf Application – 36 to 72ml per 10 to 150L water per 100m2. (Use higher water volumes for root zone targeted diseases).

Ornamentals Application – 80 mL per 100 L of water. Ensure CHIEF® TOPFLO is applied as uniformly as possible over the plant and repeat applications at 14 day intervals until control has been achieved. Spraying Saintpaulia and Poinsettia flowers may result in some petal scorch. Tepid water should be used and wet plants protected from direct sunlight.

Application Recommendations

Good disease control requires even, thorough coverage of the target area. Application should be made using sufficient water to ensure thorough coverage. Use a sprayer designed to apply high volumes of water up to the point of run-off and matched to the plants being sprayed. Set up and operate the sprayer to achieve even coverage throughout the crop canopy.

In ornamental plant situations, avoid excessive run-off. The required water volume may be determined by applying different test volumes, using different settings on the sprayer. The required dilute spray volume will change and the sprayer set up and operation may also need to be changed, as the crop grows.

Spray Tank Water Ph

CHIEF® TOPFLO is most stable in a water pH below 5 and unstable in water conditions where the pH is above 7. At a pH of 9, Iprodione undergoes alkaline hydrolysis and has a half life of less than 1 hour.

It is therefore essential to check the pH of the spray solution before adding CHIEF® TOPFLO. A suitable acidifier such as Raizer® Spray Adjuvant may have to be added to the spray solution to bring the pH closer to the ideal range and get the best result out of CHIEF® TOPFLO.

Turf Nutrition

This product acts very rapidly in the plant and where the turf is of a low nutritional status, a slight yellowing may be seen. This may be corrected by nitrogenous fertilizer applications. Where possible, it is recommended that the fertiliser program precede the fungicide application.

Compatibility

CHIEF® TOPFLO is suitable for combining with a number of plant protection and plant nutrition products, including Fosetyl Al, Mancozeb and Metalaxyl. DO NOT tank mix CHIEF® TOPFLO with fertilisers without first doing a jar test to determine physical compatibility, and to ensure the pH of the end solution is below pH 7.
