Serifel® Biological Fungicide in Strawberries

Breaking the Mould with Biological Botrytis Control

Serifel offers strawberry growers the opportunity to diversify their protectant botrytis spray programs through the season and simplify harvest – especially when repeat picking causes short harvest intervals. As a biological fungicide, Serifel has no withholding period or maximum residue limit. Compared to other biological fungicides, Serifel results in less visible spray deposits left on the finished produce.

How and When to Apply Serifel

Rates 500 g/ha

Method Mix and apply Serifel in a sufficient volume of water to ensure uniform dispersion in the spray tank and thorough coverage of foliage and fruit.

Timing Apply Serifel preventatively, prior to an infection period and the development of disease. Continue applications at 3–14 day intervals as required, when conditions favour botrytis infection and development. Use Serifel to manage low botrytis pressure conditions. Monitor disease levels and apply conventional chemistry during periods of high disease pressure. Serifel is particularly useful over harvest because it has no withholding period or MRL.

Resistance management Serifel itself should not be applied more than 10 times in the same year to help preserve its effectiveness. However, its key advantage for resistance management is that it can be used to reduce overall conventional fungicide use and relieve pressure on products that may most in danger of reduced efficacy.

Serifel can be used regularly in low disease conditions. Prior to periods of significant rainfall and anticipated high disease conditions, the use of conventional chemistry in rotation with Serifel is recommended.

This trial showed the benefit of integrating Serifel with conventional products in the program. Both the first and third Serifel applications produced superior control to the standard product rotation up to those points.
