Product details
TDS2 Sub Surface Sports Turf | Decompactor
The TDS2 Sub Surface Sports Turf Decompactor is a heavy-duty twin-leg subsoiler engineered specifically for professional turfcare. Compaction in sports turf restricts rooting, reduces drainage efficiency and can quickly degrade playing quality; the TDS2 is designed to relieve sub-surface compaction and restore drainage pathways with minimal surface disturbance.
Key Features and Specifications
- Application: Sub-surface decompaction and drainage improvement on sports turf and amenity turf.
- Design: Heavy-duty twin-leg subsoiler designed for the turfcare industry.
- Operating depth: Adjustable working depth from 9.5 cm to 37.5 cm to target specific compaction layers.
- Sub-surface action: Creates fissures in the soil profile to encourage deeper grass rooting, improve water movement and link into existing drainage systems.
- Minimal surface disruption: Engineered to deliver a shattering effect below the surface while maintaining surface playability.
- Tractor requirement: Designed to operate behind tractors from 40 hp (manufacturer specification) on turf tyres.
- Overall transport width: 1.70 m (datasheet specification).
- Number of legs: 2.
- Roller type: Smooth rear roller.
- Roller width: 1.55 m.
- Adjustment type: Pin-adjusted settings.
- Hitch: Category I and Category II linkage compatibility.
- Breakback protection: Shear bolt protection on the legs.
- Machine weight: Approx. 430 kg (main frame); datasheet total assembly weight 698 kg.
- Powertrain: No PTO or external hydraulics required for the decompaction action.
- Manufacture: Designed and manufactured in the UK in partnership with Sumo cultivation equipment.
Application and Usage Instructions
- Match the TDS2 to a suitable tractor (minimum 40 hp as per manufacturer guidance) equipped with turf tyres to minimise surface marking.
- Connect via Cat I or Cat II three-point linkage and ensure shear bolts and pins are correctly installed according to the operator’s manual.
- Set the working depth within the 9.5–37.5 cm range to target the main compaction layer identified from soil inspection.
- Operate in straight, overlapping passes at an appropriate forward speed to achieve an even sub-surface shattering effect while maintaining surface stability.
- Avoid tight turns with the legs engaged; lift clear of the surface before turning to protect the turf and machine.
- Periodically check leg, roller and shear bolt condition during operation and replace worn or damaged components as per manufacturer recommendations.
- After use, clean soil and debris from the frame, legs and roller, and store the unit under cover to protect against corrosion.
