Apply to the surface of weed free soil preferably after cultivation or just after potting up. FREEHAND will not control established weeds. Apply to dry foliage only and then sprinkler irrigate or hose (10-15 mm) to wash granules from foliage and incorporate the herbicide into the soil. Do not apply FREEHAND to wet foliage – should this happen irrigate or hose immediately to remove granules from the leaf surface. Follow the precautions listed below to avoid unnecessary plant damage and to obtain optimum weed control. One application will last for 2-3 months depending upon rainfall, irrigation, soil type (potting mix), temperature and weed seed burden. Note on Ornamentals: Freehand Herbicide has been used on a wide range of ornamental species without damage. However, some species and varieties are particularly susceptible to chemical products. As sensitivity may be related to local conditions it is advisable that only a small portion of plants are treated first to determine reaction to the product before treating entire crop. Ensure applicators are properly calibrated to apply granules evenly. After application ensure granules are brushed or washed off foliage. Even application is important for good weed control. FREEHAND application should be followed by irrigation or rainfall, before weeds germinate. If Freehand is not activated by rainfall or irrigation within 30 days, erratic weed control may result. Turf: Ensure area is clean of debris prior to application. FREEHAND may be applied and distributed using a granule applicator or GLOVED hand. Ensure applicators are properly calibrated to apply granules evenly. Oscillating spout or rotary type fertiliser spreaders are recommended for large areas. Even application is important for good weed control. FREEHAND application should be followed by irrigation or rainfall, before weeds germinate. If FREEHAND is not activated by rainfall or irrigation within 30 days, erratic weed control may result. RESISTANT WEEDS WARNING GROUP D K HERBICIDE FREEHAND® Herbicide is a member of the Dinitroanilines (DNAs) and Chloroacetamides groups of herbicides. The product has the combination of Inhibitors of microtubule assembly and inhibitors of cell division / inhibitors of very long chain fatty acids (VLCFA inhibitors) modes of action. For weed resistance management, the product is a Group D & a Group K herbicide. Some naturally occurring weed biotypes resistant to the product and other Group D & Group K herbicides may exist through normal genetic variability in any weed population. The resistant individuals can eventually dominate the weed population if these herbicides are used repeatedly. These resistant weeds will not be controlled by this product or other Group D or Group K herbicides. Since the occurrence of resistant weeds is difficult to detect prior to use, BASF Australia Ltd accepts no liability for any losses that may result from the failure of this product to control resistant weeds. PROTECTION OF WILDLIFE, FISH, CRUSTACEANS AND ENVIRONMENT To protect birds, remove spillages. Very toxic to aquatic life. DO NOT contaminate wetlands or watercourses with this product or used containers. PROTECTION OF CROPS, NATIVE AND OTHER NON-TARGET PLANTS Ornamentals: Plant only those desirable plant species listed on this label into soil or potting mix treated the previous season with FREEHAND or injury may occur. Turf: For application of FREEHAND to warm season turfgrass species not listed in the Directions for Use Table, test the safety of FREEHAND by applying to a small area first. STORAGE AND DISPOSAL For 1, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4, 4.5, 5, 5.5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 kg bottles/drums: Store in the closed, original container in a dry, cool, well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight. Triple-rinse containers before disposal. Dispose of rinsate or any undiluted chemical according to state/territory legislative requirements. If recycling, replace cap and return clean containers to recycler or designated collection point. If not recycling, break, crush or puncture and deliver empty packaging to an approved waste management facility. Do not store for prolonged periods in direct sunlight. Single rinse or shake remainder into spreader. Do not dispose of undiluted chemicals on site. Puncture and deliver empty packaging to an approved waste management facility. If an approved waste management facility is not available, bury the empty packaging 500 mm below the surface in a disposal pit specifically marked and set up for this purpose, clear of waterways, desirable vegetation and tree roots, in compliance with relevant local, state or territory government regulations. Do not burn empty containers or product. SPILLS Sweep up spilled material and return to original container. Wash contaminated equipment taking care that washings do not enter sewers, drains and other waterways. SAFETY DIRECTIONS Will irritate the eyes. Avoid contact with eyes. If product in eyes, wash it out immediately with water. When opening the container and preparing the product for use, wear cotton overalls buttoned to the neck and wrist (or equivalent clothing) and a face shield or goggles. If applying by hand, wear cotton overalls over normal clothing buttoned to the neck or wrist (or equivalent clothing), a washable hat, elbow-length chemical resistant gloves and face shield or goggles.
