# TECH SHEET - Omite 300W Miticide - 220301

> Technical Sheet

Omite® 300W
Wettable powder miticide

TECH TOPIC

Provides effective control of damaging mites in
pome fruit, stone fruit, strawberries, bananas,
beans, hops, ornamental plants, tomatoes and
other vegetables.

Active ingredient: 300 g/kg propargite
Class: Group 12C Insecticide

Omite acaride kills all active stages of the common species
of leaf eating mites.

Always refer to the label for complete details.

BENEFITS
• Kills mites resistant to other chemicals
• Specifically targets plant feeding mites
• Active on motile mites
• Gentle to predatory mites & other beneficials
• Ideal for IPM
• Short withholding period
• Improves fruit quality & yield
• Persists on the leaf to give residual action

RELIABLE CONTROL OF PLANT FEEDING MITES

Mode of action
Propargite, the active ingredient in Omite, acts as a repellant
that results in increased movement, giving motile mites more
opportunities to make contact with the spray deposit.
Once contact is made, mite feeding stops, egg laying
decreases and a slow, fatal paralysis occurs.

Mite control
Mite adults and nymphs are usually controlled within five to
seven days after treatment. New hatchings of mites are also
controlled in a few days.

Since Omite is gentle on beneficial insects and mite predators,
they are left to clean up stragglers and feed on newly
hatched nymphs.

Use Omite early
Early treatment of low level populations is recommended as
the most effective means of control.

Ideal for IPM
Omite is specific to mites and doesnt affect bees, predator
mites or beneficial insects, and is therefore ideal for integrated
pest management programs. However, spraying during
flowering is not a recommended practice with any pesticide.

Short withholding period
The withholding period for Omite 300W is three to seven days,
meaning it can be applied close to harvest if necessary.

Application
Omite is not systemic in action, therefore coverage of
both upper and lower leaf surfaces and fruit is necessary for
effective control.

Further application may be required later in the season.

Plant safety
Omite 300W is safe to stone fruits and apples when applied
under normal conditions. However, there are two conditions
known to increase the chance of Omite 300W producing
crop phytotoxicity:

1. High temperature, resulting in burning of the plant tissue.
2. Slow drying conditions, generally associated with high
humidity and low temperatures. Under these conditions,
Omite dries slowly on the plant, and is absorbed into the
plant tissue causing tissue damage.

Resistance management
To ensure Omite continues to protect orchards from mites
for many years, Omite should be applied in a resistance
management program. Rotation of different miticides from
different chemical groups is essential to prevent resistance.
